It's Been A While - But I Will Not Give Up

So it has been a few years since I started this blog. In 2010, when I completed my first Masters Degree and started applying for jobs, I quickly discovered that it was not enough to have a Masters Degree.  As a result, I returned to school for a second Masters Degree.  Still no luck on the job front. So after some time, maybe another year, I went back to school once again. At this point, I completed a Post Masters Certificate in College Teaching. That was achieved in 2012.

It is now December of 2013. I continue to apply for teaching positions, but to no avail as of now. I will not give up.

The purpose of this post is to ask for assistance.  If there is anyone out there that would be wiling to mentor me or show me exactly what is wrong I would be grateful. In the meanwhile, I will keep applying.

I've got so much to offer and share. I am a seasoned International Business Manager for many years. I have a U.S. Customs Brokers License. I have an MA in International Business and an MS in Education. I have a Post Masters Certificate in College Teaching. Although I don't have academic experience per se, I have been teaching and training in Corporate America for years.

Non-traditional instruction

I am currently looking for employment in the online higher education environment. It's been a challenge with the current economy, but I am certain that it will happen. With that in mind, I found an interesting article in the Chronicle of Higher Education regarding non-traditional education. I found this article to be inspiring and hopeful.

"Salman Khan, a former financial analyst, has created 1,400 educational videos and posted them to YouTube. "My single biggest goal is to try to deliver things the way I wish they were delivered to me," he says. The most popular educator on YouTube does not have a Ph.D. He has never taught at a college or university. And he delivers all of his lectures from a bedroom closet.

Active Learning

After spending so many years trying to successfully teach adults, I have come to realize, even before taking any formal instruction in adult education, that the average adult must have a reason to learn in order for learning to become embedded.

With that being said, it is important to engage adult students with real-life situations; preferably situations they, themselves, face in the real world. When I speak of adults, I include young adults in that category.

I have always found that the best method for getting adults to partake in active learning is by active listening. Yes, that's right. Listen to your students and they will teach the class for you!

After more than 30 years

Yes, that's correct. After more than 30 years in corporate America, I've had enough. I've decided to jump over the other side. I had an epiphany about 5 years ago that it was time to rethink my future and decided to go back to school to make it happen.

Guess what! I made it happen. I have completed an MS Education with emphasis in Psychology and am currently finishing up a second MA Global Organizational Management so I can teach what I have done for a living for the past 30+ years.

My technical knowledge is extensive which complements my organizational leadership knowledge and experience. My hope is to keep you up-to-date on my successes and failures during my new experiences outside the world of corporate America.
